Let Yourself Go, Relax

Day 2 of WC and I’m loving this cast and crew! Finished the opening number today. Lots and lots of fun.

Get your tickets now because I hear they’re flying! December 6th-18th. Click here for tickets.

Now I have two Youtube vids for you today. The first is the Red Queen dance from Christopher Wheeldon’s production of Alice in Wonderland, commissioned by The Royal Ballet. Beyond clever and perfectly performed! (Thanks to Jen for sharing.)

After watching that video I continued to watch every video of the production on Youtube. One of the most unique parts of the production is that the Mad Hatter was a tap role. Partnering Principal, Steven McRae’s superb ballet technique with his incredible tap skills was just perfect for the role. Than I got watching the few vids of McRae tapping on Youtube and I’m thoroughly impressed. It’s not every day you see a ballet dancer of that caliber doing his pullbacks just as exquisitely as his fouettes.

I love good Youtube finds!

love and laducas,

Little Letters

It’s been a year since my last Little Letters so I thought it was about time to bring it back!

Dear New York, though I will be leaving you for a while soon, I’ll miss you. I won’t miss the winter though.

Dear Houston, it’s amazing how often I find myself missing you.

Dear Michael Tapley, thank you for being the absolute perfect mentor for me. I couldn’t be more excited to share the stage with you in WC!

Dear Mom, I cannot put into words how much I love you. Thank you for always being there to listen, talk, comfort, encourage, and direct me.

Dear Internet, you rock. It’s because of you I can sit in my living room and watch General Conference.

Dear clouds, I’m in love with your always changing patterns. I love the light rays and the silver linings you create. You are stunning.

Dear pasta, thank you for being yummy and easy to make. Maybe one of these days I’ll learn to cook something else.

Dear me, get your butt into a ballet class this week!

Dear Fall, you are my favorite. I love seeing the leaves change colors.

Dear Radio City, I’m not going to lie… I do miss you. And it is hard sometimes. But I’m forever grateful to everything that you taught me. I was extremely lucky to have you as my first professional job. I’m grateful for the friendships I gained and the lessons I learned.

Dear Itunes, get ready to put the White Christmas album on repeat!!!

Dear President Monson, you are the best storyteller. Oh how I’ve enjoyed listening to you this Conference weekend.

Dear you, I need a new book to read. Got any suggestions?

Happy Sunday! I’m so enjoying the talks being spoken in General Conference. Looking forward to everything I’ve got going on this week.

Tiffany’s Photoshoot

Last week I had the opportunity of photographing my gorgeous Rockette friend, Tiffany Griffin. I had been itching to do a shoot after two months of no photo shoots. I’m sure you’ll agree with me when I say that Tiffany is absolutely stunning and boy did we luck out with the locations we found in Fort Tryon.

I had an absolute blast and lemme tell ya- it will NOT be another two months till my next shoot!

Peeking in on Dracula Rehearsals

This weekend on my trip to Houston I was able to photograph BAHBT’s Dracula rehearsals. I didn’t get to see last years production and probably won’t be able to attend it this year as well, so it was a lot of fun getting to sit in on rehearsals. I’m so jealous of these kids. I keep thinking how much I would’ve loved to do this version of Dracula when I was in the company!

Check out the video from last year! Visit www.bahbt.org for more information on this years production.

Everything was beautiful at the ballet

This last Monday I had the pleasure of being in the audience for ABT’s Opening Night Gala. The evening was filled with the most beautiful pieces by the companies top dancers. It was truly one of the most amazing nights of ballet I’ve ever experienced.

The greatest part of the whole night though was seeing my best friend perform with his fellow classmates in front of the audience of 4,000. Max and the other JKO Level 7 students got to perform a classical piece for the Gala. Let me tell you, it’s such a great feeling to be filled with pride for your friend’s achievements. I’m so happy for him and know that this is only the beginning of great things to come!

One of my favorite numbers was the Grand Pas de Deux from Richard Hudson’s The Nutcracker. The choreography, flawlessy danced by Veronika Part and Marcelo Gomes, was just so new and refreshing. I always like seeing a new original take on something so classic. I would love to see the entire ballet.

Also one of the highlists of the evening was “Majisimo,” featuring ABT dancers Paloma Herrera, Xiomara Reyes, Jose Manuel Carreno and guest artists Lorena Feijoo, Lorna Feijoo, Reyneris Reyes, Nelson Madrigal, and Joan Boada. All that talent on one stage… quite a treat to watch.

I was in for quite a pleasant surprise when I opened the program and read that my favorite ballerina, Alina Cojocaru, would be performing the Rose adagio from my favorite ballet, Sleeping Beauty. Never have I gotten to see Alina perform live, so I was so very happy to see her  while she’s guesting at ABT. She embodies everything a ballerina should be; dainty, elegant, soft, beautiful… just perfection!

My favorite performance of the evening was Splendid Isolation III, with choreography by Jessica Lang and dancing by husband and wife, Irina Dvorovenko and Maxim Beloserkovsky. I’ve always throughly enjoe watching the duo perform, but this piece was just incredible. That opening image of Irina center stage with her dress fully spread, the interaction of the skirt throughout the dance, the perfect ease between them both… my mind was blown. Simply stunning.

So to conclude this post I wanted to just say how much I adore ballet. In a very weird way (and I can’t believe I’m saying this) I miss putting on my pointe shoes every day. Though I’ve always had a love/it makes me sick relationship with ballet, watching that Gala performance reminded me of the beauty and grace that makes it one of the most perfect things in this world. Ballet, you will always have a very special place in my heart. Because everything was (and is) beautiful at the ballet…
